Cosmetics OEM Quotation and Costing Guide

YOU MIRACLE Editorial Team

Cosmetics OEM There is no fixed unit price that deviates from specifications. Asking "How much does it cost to make a face cream" on the Internet without providing capacity, formula, bottles, quantity and delivery standards is like asking "How much does it cost to renovate a store" and the answer cannot be accurately answered. A valid quotation must put the contents, packaging materials, workmanship, quantity, testing and delivery conditions in the same list.

01

1. Cosmetics OEM Complete formula for quote

An executable quotation usually consists of content cost, direct packaging materials, outer packaging, printing process, production and filling, quality testing, regulatory information, loss, packing, warehousing and logistics. The gift box project also needs to include inner support, carrying bag, assembly labor and drop protection.

  • Contents: raw materials, addition amounts, losses and minimum production batches
  • Direct packaging materials: bottles, cans, pumps, nozzles, caps, inner plugs and seals
  • Printing decoration: silk screen, hot stamping, electroplating, spraying, labeling and coding
  • Outer packaging: color box, gift box, inner tray, instructions and outer shipping carton
  • Manufacturing and inspection: weighing, emulsification, filling, assembly, physical, chemical and microbiological inspection
  • Delivery: crating, warehousing, domestic logistics or export containerization
02

2. Why can the price of the same 200ml differ greatly?

The same capacity does not mean the same specifications. Transparent ordinary bottles and customized spray bottles, universal pump heads and metallic pump heads, single-color silk screen printing and multi-color hot stamping, ordinary color boxes and magnetic gift boxes will form completely different cost structures. The oils, actives, flavors and preservative systems in the formula also affect raw material costs and manufacturing difficulty.

Quotation comparison must unify taxes, proofing, testing, packing, freight, loss and payment terms. If the low-price quotation does not include the bottle cleaner material, printing color, sampling standards and abnormality responsibilities, it is most likely to increase the cost later.

03

3. What determines the minimum order quantity of cosmetics?

The minimum order quantity is not a number randomly set by the factory, but the maximum of four minimum quantities: the minimum production batch of the content, the minimum purchase quantity of the packaging material supplier, the printing start-up quantity and the economic batch of the production line. A formula can only produce 500 kilograms, but customized bottle caps may require 10,000 pieces. At this time, the real limitation of the project is the packaging material.

YOU MIRACLE The general reference is that the minimum price is 5,000 bottles for skin care, 5,000 pieces for makeup, and 5,000 bottles for perfume. The specific requirements still need to be evaluated based on the product, capacity, packaging material and process. For small batch projects, you can give priority to spot bottles, standard colors, labeling or single-color printing to reduce mold opening and customized surface processes.

04

4. Where to spend on cosmetics sampling fees?

The workload of fine-tuning mature formulas, benchmarking reference samples and developing new formulas is different. The sampling fee may cover raw material samples, formula screening, color and fragrance adjustment, sample filling and express delivery. Makeup shades, fragrances, special effects and custom packaging often require more rounds.

The key to reducing iteration is to provide complete feedback one time. It is recommended to score by color, smell, viscosity, spread, absorption, residue, foam, rinse, color development, coverage, makeup or fragrance retention, and clarify which sample version is closest to the target.

05

5. How long does it take from proofing to delivery?

You can refer to 7-10 days for regular formula proofing, and 15 to 30 days for bulk delivery, but this is not a commitment to all projects. Formula redevelopment, raw material procurement, stability observation, filing information, bottle mold opening, spray plating, complex gift boxes and cross-border transportation will all extend the cycle.

When reversing the time to market, the sales date, arrival date, transportation time, shipping inspection, production filling, packaging materials arriving at the factory, printing confirmation and formula signing should be locked in order. Don't misunderstand "15 days of production" to mean that it only takes 15 days from request to finished product arriving at the warehouse.

06

6. How to get a comparable quotation

When making an inquiry, send the following information to each factory and ask them to provide feedback in the same format. This is how you can differentiate between true cost differences and quotes with missing items.

  • Product name, dosage form, capacity and estimated quantity
  • Target channels, target countries and retail price bands
  • Reference sample, target scent, color and feel
  • Bottle material, pump head, cap and decoration technology
  • Labels, color boxes, gift boxes, inner trays and outer carton requirements
  • Required testing, filing or export information
  • Desired delivery location, time and trade terms
  • Molds, plate fees, losses, remaining materials and replenishment rules
07

7. How to prioritize when the budget is insufficient?

Priority is given to ensuring the safety and stability of formulas, packaging materials in direct contact with contents, label compliance and basic quality inspections. Complex mold opening, excessive color numbers, heavy gift boxes and high-loss decoration processes can be postponed. What consumers will come into contact with and use repeatedly is the content, pump head and opening and closing experience, which have a greater impact on repurchase than disposable decorations.

Academic data reminds that product stability and container compatibility need to be verified separately; adsorption or migration may occur between packaging materials and formula ingredients. Budget constraints should not eliminate necessary stability, sealing, and compatibility evaluations.

FAQ

Cosmetics OEM Can I make 500 bottles first?

Some off-the-shelf formulas and off-the-shelf packaging may support small batches, but custom formulas, printing and bottle colors are often subject to supply chain minimum quantities.

Why is there no filing fee in the quotation?

Different markets, categories and responsible entities have different requirements. Regulatory services are often accounted for separately, and the country of sale must be confirmed first.

Is it cheaper to purchase packaging materials yourself?

Not necessarily. Also take into account factory inspections, losses, delays, mismatches and liability boundaries. Before self-harvesting, the factory should confirm the size and filling suitability.

How to avoid raising prices after production?

The contract clearly states the specifications, quantity, loss, printing fee, mold ownership, inspection standards, delivery date and exception handling.
